Course 1: Foundations of Post-Capitalist Thought

Overview

This course is all about getting your bearings. We’ll start with the big thinkers who kicked off the conversation about capitalism—Marx, Engels, Luxemburg, Gramsci, Harvey, Wright, Jameson—and trace how their ideas shape the way we talk about post-capitalism today.

Each week, you’ll read a mix of classic texts and modern interpretations, paired with videos and podcasts that bring the material down to earth. The idea isn’t to get lost in theory, but to pull out the key ideas that help us see how capitalism actually works, why it tends to run into crises, and what kinds of alternatives might be possible.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a strong foundation in the major debates: how capital accumulates, how power is maintained, why capitalism feels so “natural,” and what kinds of real-world experiments might point us beyond it.

This isn’t about memorizing jargon. It’s about building a toolkit for thinking critically about the system we live in—and imagining the systems we might build next.
